Galaxy A55: New Images Hint of Thick Bezels and Middling Macro Camera

While we anticipate the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S24 on January 17, the company’s upcoming mid-range Galaxy A55 also continues to pop up on our radar. Notably, the device’s renders and specs have already been uncovered before, but now its official-looking photos surfaced, confirming major design changes and colorways.

Samsung Galaxy A55 colors and design

In the set of images shared by Android Headlines, Samsung’s Galaxy A55 will be available in new paint jobs with some being different from the Galaxy A54 (review). Firstly, the new Awesome Lilac color seems to replace the purple of the predecessor and has a primary gradient of pink. There is also an Awesome Iceblue inclined to as a light metallic blue while the Awesome Navy is mixed of graphite and dark blue.

As regards the design, the Galaxy A55 is still a familiar affair except that it has a flatter frame and new Key Island housing the side buttons. Interestingly, the frame gets this brushed metal feel and corroborates the report this uses aluminum material, which is a step up from the polycarbonate on the Galaxy A54. The bezels on the front are still prominent, suggesting Samsung has not reduced them either.

On the back, there is a triple camera module with individual floating lens cutout. What we can easily notice, however, is the unchanged optics sizes on all three shooters. With such note, the middle sensor is likely to accommodate the same main 50 MP camera while the top should sit the ultrawide. What could disappoint is the bottom sensor with a minuscule macro sensor, indicating this snapper won’t go away this year.

Beyond the looks, the Galaxy A55 is said to be powered by Samsung’s Exynos 1480 chipset with a faster octa-core processor. The graphics is confirmed to utilized AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture similar to the technology found on the flagship Samsung Galaxy counterparts. Meanwhile, the device should boot on Android 14 OS and get a base memory configuration with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage.

Additionally, the Galaxy A55 is equipped with a flat AMOLED screen. It’s unknown if the 6.4-inch display size will be increased this time. To the end, the battery capacity is unchanged with a 5,000 mAh cell, which is the same goes for the 25 watts charging rating.

Samsung has kept mum on the Galaxy A55’s release date. But with the Galaxy A15 and Galaxy A25 already made official in some countries, it won’t take too long before the mid-range is introduced as well. How much do you think it should cost? We’d like to hear your answers in the comments.
