After the highly successful launch of the Galaxy S23 series, Samsung decided to follow it up later this year with the launch of the Galaxy S23 FE — a device that makes some compromises in order to keep the price down as much as possible but is still powerful enough to call itself an S23. The FE series took a one-year break, as Samsung decided against launching a Galaxy S22 FE, but it’s back this year in all its glory. Now, you can finally buy one, albeit you might be paying a tad bit more.
Samsung’s long-awaited Galaxy S23 FE has finally launched for those of you who want a cheap alternative to the Galaxy S23. One common observation about the device is that it makes some strange compromises compared to older FE phones. We have, for one, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which is the chip that powered the Galaxy S22 range, instead of the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that’s featured on the S23 range. We wouldn’t be surprised if this device was based on the Galaxy S22 FE that the company ultimately decided to shelve, since FE phones usually feature very similar internals to their more expensive siblings. But at $600, it was also pretty hard to scoff at it. The 8 Gen 1 is still very good by today’s standards, after all, and is used by some cheaper phones even today.
If you’ve been tempted to buy this phone, however, we do have one thing we need to tell you about its price. On Samsung’s official store, the phone is actually $630 rather than $600, a $30 price hike compared to what was previously promised. Samsung hasn’t really said anything about it, nor has it mentioned a price hike or a $630 price tag, so it’s a bit confusing. Perhaps more confusing, however, is the fact that the phone is actually the price it’s supposed to be on Amazon and Best Buy. Perhaps a fluke from Samsung?
