Apple released the M3 MacBook Air about a month ago, and it’s a great laptop. But so was the laptop it replaced, the M2 MacBook Air, and we thought that it wasn’t going to be long before deals for the M2 laptop popped up. That time has finally come.
Amazon is offering a couple of great prices on the 13.6-inch M2 MacBook Air:
The prices of both those laptops are $150 less than the original price. For your reference, Apple offers the M2 MacBook Air with a 256GB SSD for $849 in its Certified Refurnished Store; Amazon’s model is new. Apple also sells refurbished M2 Airs with 512GB SSDs for $1,016, which is lower than Amazon’s price but is not new.
One caveat about the 256GB SSD: With the M2 MacBook Air, Apple used a single NAND chip, which is slower than the 512GB SSD, which uses two. You’ll notice the slowdown in extreme tasks requiring SSD access (such as reading or writing large files). But on general everyday tasks, you won’t. Apple fixed this with the M3 MacBook Air.
In our review of the M2 MacBook Air, Macworld’s Jason Cross said, “the M2 MacBook Air has more than enough muscle to make quick work of everyday tasks, but it’s wonderfully thin and light with a big beautiful display and killer battery life.” Compared to the M3 MacBook Air, it’s a little slower overall, but you’ll notice that only with processor-intensive tasks. For everyday use at this price, it’s hard to beat.
