Samsung’s Huge New 98-Inch 8K QLED TV Is Wildly Expensive

Samsung just announced and released its biggest Neo QLED 8K TV, which should deliver the ultimate in-home entertainment experience. The all-new 98-inch Class QN990C Neo QLED 8K TV employs the latest Quantum Matrix Pro with Mini LEDs, a sleek frame, and a massive $40,000 price tag to match its sheer size.

While this isn’t Samsung’s first 98-inch 8K TV, it’s the biggest model the company has ever released in the flagship Neo QLED lineup, and it’ll cost ya. The Samsung QN990C Neo 8K joins the family of smaller models revealed earlier this year, including 65, 75, and 85-inch variants.

The TV features an all-metal design, dynamic audio, and plenty of power on the inside to push all those pixels. Its Neural Quantum Processor uses AI to upscale any content to 8K, which you’ll get to enjoy in stunning detail thanks to Quantum Mini LEDs capable of HDR 64X, 14-bit processing, and producing over a billion colors.

Like its smaller siblings, the new 98-inch Neo QLED features an anti-glare coating and extremely wide viewing angles, meaning you’ll see stunning content from any seat in your home theater room. Other specs include a smart calibration tool that does all the heavy lifting and a game-centric “Motion Xcelerator Turbo+” mode that can deliver full 8K frames at 120Hz for high-speed action films and gamers. Previous models only went to 4K.

For the price, this thing is packed with all the bells and whistles. I’m talking about Samsung’s AI depth enhancer that’ll instantly boost lighting around objects a viewer may look at in any scene, all while dimming other areas, which should improve visuals while also decreasing power usage.

Hiding inside the all-metal frame is a collection of out and upward-firing speakers for true Dolby Atmos sound. It uses a highly capable 120-watt 6.4.4-channel speaker system with Cinema Object Tracking Sound, and Samsung says, “With OTS Pro, audio flows from all 4 sides, the center and above your TV to put you right in the middle of the scene for a truly cinematic experience.”

Samsung spared no expenses here, and we’re getting a slew of four HDMI (ARC/eARC) ports on the back, three USB, one USB-C port, Ethernet, optical audio, and more. Not to mention far-field voice microphones with support for Alexa, Wi-Fi 6E, and video calls with Google Meet.

Obviously, this isn’t going to come cheap. It’s worth noting that the previous 98-inch 8K Q900 series came out in 2019 for $100,000, so this new model is 60% cheaper. Those interested can grab the all-new Samsung QN990C Neo 98-inch 8K QLED TV for $39,999 from Samsung’s website. That or just drop a size and snag the 85-incher for around $5k.
