As spotted buy publication MySmartPrice, two photos of the Pixel 8a’s box have been published by user Hung Nv on a Facebook group. Based on those materials, we can easily come up that the device’s design will be influenced by the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, with rounder corners. Moreover, the rear visor where the dual camera sits has been updated with a slightly taller height., making it more prominent.
The Pixel 8a printed on the front of the packaging is shown in black colorway. Meaning, it should carry one of the colors of the Pixel 7a (review), which is aptly dubbed Charcoal. It’s unclear what other variants will be offered, but a previous leak suggested a blue colorway exists.
Google Pixel 8a’s advantage to Pixel 7a is with the charging speed
More texts are shown at the back, which immediately don’t present anything exciting. But for those that are good for noticing things, the Pixel 8a is listed with a USB PD (Power Delivery) feature and a charging rating of 7.5 to 27 watts. The latter value indicates that it should charge faster given the Pixel 7a is only rated at 18 watts.
For reference, the Pixel 7a can be fully recharged from 0 to 100 percent in an hour and 30 minutes. So, depending on the battery capacity, the Pixel 8a should likely clock around an hour to replenish its juice, which is still a welcome boost in saving you time. Meanwhile, wireless charging speed is unchanged at 7.5 watts and confirmed the box won’t come with a charger.
Both live hands-on images and renders of Pixel 8a from last year already revealed the Pixel 8a is going to keep the prominent bezels and centered punch hole at the front. Similarly, the dimensions of the new handset don’t differ much from its predecessor, which tells the 6.1-inch OLED screen size is unchanged.
Beyond the looks, Pixel 8a should be powered by a notably improved and faster Tensor G3 chipset, albeit with a slower CPU clock speed. It may also get a bigger battery capacity, similar to the standard Pixel 8. It’s unclear if we’re seeing better cameras on the Pixel 8a given last year’s Pixel 7a arrived with a new primary shooter.
