Netgear’s New Wi-Fi Mesh System Wants to Beat Eero

If you have a big house, or even if you live in a house where signal in some areas might get spotty, a mesh Wi-Fi system is usually the best solution. Mesh systems are basically multiple routers placed in multiple rooms, with the secondary routers just repeating the signal of the main router. It’s a great idea, and Amazon’s Eero lineup basically has this concept nailed down. If you need something that’s a little bit more powerful, however, these new routers by Netgear might be a good option.

Netgear has unveiled the Nighthawk Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 6E System (MK93S), which the company says is designed to redefine home networking with enhanced range and performance. Being comprised of a main router and two secondary routers (basically a three-pack), this system apparently boasts a 50% improvement in Wi-Fi performance over its predecessor, delivering blazing-fast speeds of up to 5.7 Gbps. The routers themselves are powered by a robust quad-core 1.7 GHz processor and feature Wi-Fi 6E tri-band technology, promising reduced congestion, minimal latency, and ample bandwidth.

The MK93S is able to connect up to 100 devices simultaneously, making it ideal for smart homes and security systems in addition to still remaining fast enough for 4K/8K streaming and online gaming. It also happens to look pretty classy, with the objective that you can actually put this anywhere in your home without looking too out of place. And of course, it’s a mesh system, which means its purpose is to eliminate dead zones and provide consistent coverage — Netgear says these bad boys are able to cover across up to 7,500 square feet. The system’s patented antennas enhance signal strength for uninterrupted performance.

The system also includes a new 2.5 Gig Internet port, enabling users to make full use of their ultra-fast internet speeds of up to 2.5 Gbps. Moreover, it boasts seven Ethernet ports for wired connections to gaming consoles and IoT gateways. It also has a few cool features, such as the ability to create unique, customized WiFi networks across the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands. It also features a dedicated 2.4 GHz SSID for IoT devices.

The only problem with this mesh system is that it comes at a pretty steep price — $549.99. But it sure looks like one of the best mesh systems your money can buy. It’s now available for pre-order at Netgear’s website, and it will arrive at other retailers soon.
