The ever-growing LEGO “Super Mario” series now includes a Piranha Plant model. Measuring nine inches tall, the Piranha Plant looks like the perfect addition to any desk or shelf, and it should pair well with LEGO’s Botanical Collection. But be warned; this is not an addition to the LEGO “Mario” toy series—it’s much too big for that, and it’s intended for ages 18+. You can order the LEGO Piranha Plant for $60 on November 6th.
LEGO’s Piranha Plant model contains 540 individual bricks, including some very unique-looking pieces. The model itself is impressive, too. It has a very detailed appearance and is fully articulated. You can move the Piranha Plant’s mouth, leaves, and stalk to create a variety of energetic poses. Interestingly, the body of the Piranha Plant can sway from side to side, similar to how it moves in the “Mario” games.
Naturally, the base of this model is a green pipe that contains two gold coins. A button on the back of the pipe allows you to dispense these coins. There appears to be a small cavity inside the pipe, so you may be able to shove other small items in there. But we won’t get a good look at it until the Piranha Plant model launches on November 6th.
The building process for LEGO’s Piranha Plant should be pretty straightforward. LEGO says that you start with the bottom of the green pipe and work your way up, meaning that the Piranha Plant will “emerge” from the pipe. It seems like something that kids would enjoy building, but with 540 small pieces (and an 18+ rating from LEGO), an adult needs to be involved. In any case, it’s far less intimidating than the Mighty Bowser set that LEGO launched last year.
To reiterate, the LEGO Piranha Plant model arrives on November 6th. It costs $60, which is an acceptable price for a LEGO brand tie-in of this size. And, with an early November release date, the LEGO Piranha Plant may be a popular Christmas present. You can view the full LEGO “Super Mario” collection on LEGO’s website.
