iPhone 15 Pro can record spatial Vision Pro videos

We thought a USB-C port would be the coolest thing about iPhone 15 Pro. We might have been wrong.

During its big iPhone 15 unveiling event, Apple spent a ton of time going over everything the iPhone 15 Pro can do. One of those features actually plays nice with the upcoming Vision Pro headset. To be more specific, iPhone 15 Pro owners will be able to record three-dimensional “spatial videos” that they can then be immersed in using a Vision Pro headset.

Apple didn’t spend much time elaborating on how this would work, and the iPhone 15 Pro press release doesn’t really help. Here’s the full extent of what Apple has to say about spatial video right now:

Coming later this year, iPhone 15 Pro will add a new dimension to video capture with the ability to record spatial video for Apple Vision Pro. Users will be able to capture precious moments in three dimensions and relive those memories with incredible depth on Apple Vision Pro when it is available early next year in the U.S.

So we don’t know anything about video options, resolution, or maximum length just yet. We also don’t know just how accurate the feature is; it would be a bummer to record a spatial video of a day at the park with your family only for the final result to feature tons of visual glitches.

But hey, maybe you too can be like Tom Cruise in Minority Report, constantly and sadly reliving memories of a life long since past.
