Tech news sites, including Macworld, have spotted evidence that iOS 17.1.1 is already being tested for an imminent rollout.
MacRumors posted Thursday a news story reporting that its own analytics logs indicated that “Apple appears to be internally testing an iOS 17.1.1 update for the iPhone.” The site didn’t provide any further detail from the logs, such as the volume or source of the iOS 17.1.1-based traffic, but the implication is that it came from Apple’s internal testing team.
Here at Macworld we checked our own logs, and we too spotted a lone visitor on November 2 using Safari and iOS 17.1.1. My colleague and Google Analytics whizz Karen Haslam was able to interrogate the logs to glean further insights: namely, that the visitor was using a device with the resolution 390×844 (likely an iPhone 12/13/14 or 13 Pro), and that the visitor was based in Sunnyvale, which is where Apple Campus 3 is located. Case closed!
iOS 17.1.1 is likely to focus on bug fixes and security updates rather than new iPhone features. We can’t be sure which bugs Apple will try to tackle, though the random shutdown issue, which wasn’t fixed with iOS 17.1, may be high on the list. The update could arrive as early as next week alongside the new M3 MacBook Pros and iMac.
iOS 17.2, meanwhile, is slated to include the Journal app and other significant changes and new features. That version is already available in beta, but probably won’t come out until December.
