Apple has released a series of software updates for various devices, including iOS 16.6.1 for iPhone, MacOS Ventura 13.5.2 for Mac, and iPadOS 16.6.1 for iPad. The updates appear to be include important security fixes for actively exploited issues, and no new features are included.
These small point release updates arrive ahead of the major new releases of iOS/iPadOS 17 and MacOS Sonoma 14 that are set to be released as soon as next week at the planned September 12 Apple event.
How to Download & Install iOS 16.6.1 / iPadOS 16.6.1
As always, backup iPhone or iPad to iCloud, Finder, or to a computer before installing any software update.
- Open the “Settings” app on iPhone or iPad
- Choose “General”
- Choose “Software Update”
- Choose to “Download and Install” for iOS 16.6.1 / iPadOS 16.6.1
You will need to restart your iPhone or iPad to finish installation of iOS 16.6.1 and iPadOS 16.6.1
If you are currently running iOS 17 or ipadOS 17, you will not see any updates for iOS 16.x or iPadoS 16.x
Optionally, users can install the updates with a computer by using a USB cable and updating through Finder or by using IPSW files.

How to Download & Install MacOS Ventura 13.5.2 Update
Always back up your Mac with Time Machine before installing updates to system software.
- Go to the Apple menu and choose “System Settings”
- Select “General”
- Select “Software Update”
- Select to “Update Now” for macOS Ventura 13.5.2
As usual, the Mac will need to restart to complete installation of the update.
If you are actively running Sonoma, you will not see updates for Ventura.
