The Asus Zenfone 10 could be the last entry from the series. This is after a new report suggests that the company is terminating the department responsible for the line. If to materialize, the move would not see the Zenfone 11 launching at all and leaving the ROG Phone series as the only mobile offerings.
According to Taiwanese outlet TechNews, Asus has an on-going restructuring for its PC division with most of the employees planned to be transferred to its two mobile divisions, the Zenfone and ROG. However, a new internal letter says that these employees were either laid off or transferred to the latter team while the entire Zenfone department is planned to be dissolved.
The development gives weight to the previous news that Digitimes covered in July which was described to affect the regional offices Asus in Taiwan and China. It is believed that reason to this was due to the declining PC and mobile markets that started last year and persisting until in the early quarters of 2023.
It now leaves Asus with the Zenfone 10 (review) as the last flagship from the company. The device was launched this year and was recently released in most markets. While it’s a compact flagship Android smartphone with a cheaper price tag than most alternatives, it appears it is not doing well in demand and sales.
Going forward, Asus would eventually cancel the Zenfone 11, which is supposedly planned next year. At the same time, it positions the Asus ROG Phone range — check out our ROG Phone 7 review here — as the only mobile offering from the company in the future. But even so, there is no guarantee this will be continued.
What do you think of Asus’ plans? Would it be logical for them to end the Zenfone series? Tell us in the comments.
