It hasn’t been too long since Apple took to the stage to announce its newest hardware. That’s when we got the latest iPhones, the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Pro. However, Apple apparently isn’t done with its product launches for the year, as the company has just announced a new event to be held later in October.
Apple has announced a new event with the tagline “Scary fast,” to be held on October 30th at 5 PM PT. As has been the case with the last few Apple hardware events, this one is pre-recorded and will be available to watch online. October 30th is next Monday and just one day before Halloween, which is probably the reason why the event’s tagline is “Scary fast.” Meanwhile, the 5 PM PT event time (8 PM ET) is unusually late for an Apple event — the company normally announces hardware in the morning/afternoon.
As for what Apple will announce during the event, it’s really not clear, but there are strong indications that we might see new Mac computers. Looking at Apple’s events page, we can see the Apple logo morphing into the classic smiley face Macintosh logo used in the 90s and early 2000s. If the announcement weren’t Mac-related, this would be really confusing.
We might see, for example, new iMacs, which haven’t been refreshed since the first M1-based iMacs were announced. We doubt Apple will be holding a whole event for just one new computer, but the rest of Apple’s lineup of laptops and computers are already on some variant of the M2 processor. So the other possibility, then, would be the announcement of the new M3 chip, as well as new Macs powered by it.
Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, who’s usually really reliable as far as Apple rumors go, has said that people shouldn’t expect new MacBook Air laptops, but other than that, an M3 announcement would open the door to announcements such as a new 13-inch MacBook Pro or a new Mac Mini. Hey, maybe even the iMac will go straight from M1 to M3. Who knows?
Of course, this is just speculation — we’ll have to wait until Monday to see what Apple has in store. The livestream should be available on Apple.com when the time comes.
