The original, The Secret of Monkey Island, arrived in 1990. Four more games, set in the golden era of pirates, have arrived throughout the years.
Fans of the series should be happy to hear that the sixth installment, Return to Monkey Island has just arrived on the App Store.
The game marks the return of series creator Ron Gilbert that continues the story o both The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge.
Time has taken a toll on Threepwood. It’s been years since he battled his nemesis, LeChuck. And his true love Elaine Marley has turned her focus away from governing. Threepwood is adrift as he never found the Secret of Monkey Island.
If that wasn’t enough to hear, hip and young pirate leaders—led by Captain Madison—have shuffled to old guard from power. Melee Island has also taken a turn for the worse with the new management.
So be prepared to talk with old friends and new faces while taking to the high seas and explore. As always, there will be a number of clever puzzles to solve.
Just like previous games in the series, you’ll enjoy the classic point-and-clock gameplay. Being a pirate is easy with context-sensitive interactions, reactive dialog trees, and an easy-to-use inventory system,
Along with the familiar Melee Island, you’ll also explore new places like Terror Island and the outpost of Brrr Muda to make allies and find enemies to battle.
