Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery just got its largest-ever game expansion. Dubbed Beyond Hogwarts, it offers 50% more content as players leave the hallowed halls of Hogwarts and visit the magical haunts of London.
With the expansion, those who played the original game when it launched 5 years ago can come back and find plenty more to enjoy.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery grows up and goes Beyond Hogwarts
When Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery begins, players take on the role of young students at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. They attend classes, learn spells, date other characters, play quidditch and embark on quests.
But in the Beyond Hogwarts expansion pack, it’s time to graduate. Players that have completed Year 7 of the game can leave school, grow up and start a career.
The game now offers three career paths to choose from at the Rare Obscure Confounding Case Division (ROCC): Auror, Healer and Magizoologist.
And growing up means aging up, so characters don’t look like kids anymore.
The original Hogwarts Mystery is set before Harry Potter is old enough to attend school. The expansion pack begins on 31 July 1991 in Diagon Alley where players will catch a glimpse of young Harry on his way to Ollivanders to get his wand.
Beyond Hogwarts offers a fresh adventure encountering both new places and faces as well as some very familiar ones. There are 15+ new environments and 25+ new chapters in Volume 1.
“Follow Professor Quirrell’s return to Hogwarts after his sabbatical in Albania, encounter Mad-Eye Moody and Elton Elderberry at the Ministry of Magic, reconnect with aged-up classmates Tonks, Bill and Charlie, and witness moments in Harry Potter’s journey from a new perspective,” says Jam City, the developer.
Now on the App Store
The updated version of Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is available now on the App Store. There are versions for iPad and iPhone.
The game is free to download and play. However, like virtually all “free” games, there are in-app purchases. These range on price from $0.99 to $19.99.
Fans of Wizarding World games might also enjoy magical duels against dark wizards in Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, which debuted in June 2023.
