Samsung’s Next Unpacked Reveal Event Is January 17

The new year has arrived, and there are some exciting tech announcements on the horizon. We’re starting to see some announcements coming out of CES 2024, but now Samsung has revealed its next Unpacked event will take place later in January. We’re expeting to see the Galaxy S24 series at the big event, and possibly other new devices as well.

Samsung has announced that its very first Unpacked 2024 hardware event will be taking place on January 17th, just about 15 days from now. It will be held at 10:00 AM PT, or 1:00 PM ET, at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. The company is narrowly missing CES 2024, at least for these specific announcements, but it’s not too far away, either. Namely, this event is being held just a couple of weeks earlier than last year’s first Unpacked, which was held on February 1st, 2023. That event was also held about a week before 2022’s event, so there’s an ongoing trend here.

As for what we should expect, we’re supposed to get three new smartphones—the Galaxy S24, the Galaxy S24 Plus, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra. You’ve probably spied some leaks about these upcoming phones floating around the internet, but just like the S23 series was more of an iterative upgrade over the S22 series, we’re not seeing a lot of changes this time around either. The screen in the S24 Ultra is rumored to be flat rather than curved as it has been up until this point, but other than this, you can expect all three phones to look identical to their predecessors, at least from the outside. The phones are coming a few months after Apple released the iPhone 15 series, which will be Samsung’s main competition in the US.

As with previous years, you’ll be able to “reserve” the unannounced phones, with Samsung giving you a $50 credit for doing this. We’ll also probably see a bunch of neat discounts and trade-in perks once the phones are actually announced. Make sure to reserve your phone if you think you might buy one—there’s no cost to sign up and no penalty to not getting the phone in the end.
