OnePlus Fold to be unveiled in August in New York

The mythical first OnePlus foldable smartphone is coming in the third quarter of this year, according to CEO Pete Lau himself. Now a new rumor from a generally reliable source hones in on some of the minute details.

First up, the unveiling will apparently take place in New York in the first half of August. That means it will be announced only a week or two after Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold5 and Flip5, if we go by the latest rumors saying the Korean company’s next Unpacked event is scheduled for July 26. That’s a pretty brave stance on OnePlus’ part, wanting to steal some thunder from Samsung.

Next up, the device is said to undergo a global rollout, thankfully, with no weird shenanigans (looking at you, Pixel Fold!). This of course means it will become available in the US, India, and all other countries where OnePlus currently sells its wares.

Interestingly, Oppo is rumored to debut its Find N3 in China in August too, and according to past mumblings, the OnePlus Fold might just act as the international version of that phone. If so, then expect it to boast an 8-inch inner foldable screen with QHD+ resolution, and a 6.5-inch outer FHD+ screen, both with 120 Hz refresh rate.

Inside there will be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The OnePlus Fold is expected to run Android 13 with OxygenOS 13.1 on top, which is a bit disappointing considering the fact that it’s allegedly launching right around the time when Google will release Android 14.

Anyway, rounding up the specs are a 4,800 mAh battery with support for 80W wired charging, a 50 MP main camera with OIS, a 48 MP ultrawide, a 32 MP periscope telephoto camera, and a pair of 32 MP selfie shooters, one for each screen.
