OnePlus’ First Foldable Phone will be called ‘OnePlus Open’

OnePlus plans to launch its first foldable smartphone, which is widely believed to be called the OnePlus Fold or OnePlus V Fold based on an earlier filing by the Chinese company. It turns out OnePlus could have a different name with the OnePlus Open moniker being the forerunner.

The naming scheme was recently discovered (via MaxJamb) in the latest trademark that OnePlus submitted to the EU’s IPO. This suggests the OnePlus Open as the most probable name for the foldable Android smartphone, at least in this particular region. However, it is very likely that a similar name will be featured in the global markets if it actually takes off.

In addition to Open, OnePlus also had different names in store for the foldable smartphone according to the leaker. It includes unique and less generic concepts like Prime and Wing as well as Peak and Edge, among others.

Earlier in January, it was rumored that OnePlus was working on a book-style and clamshell foldable form factors that are equivalent counterparts to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold and Flip series. At the same time, it filed the OnePlus V Fold and V Flip entries in China, which could end up as the respective names for these devices if they were to be launched by OnePlus.

Pictures of the OnePlus foldable phone were spotted last month, revealing the premium design of the device. More recently, other specifications were disclosed, including Hasselblad optics that are mated to the rear triple camera along with a high-res primary and cover AMOLED screens. In addition, the chipset is touted to be the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC while the memory configuration will feature 16 GB RAM and 256 GB of internal storage.

OnePlus confirmed that it will launch the OnePlus Open in August. There is no word yet if how much the handset will be priced. As for its rival, Samsung, the South Koreans recently announced its Unpacked event that will happen on July 26, where it will debut the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.
