The Apple iPhone 15 is among the first devices to be supported with the Qi2 wireless charging and with the lineup likely arriving in September. Meanwhile, Google’s Pixel 8, which is only expected to be unveiled along with the Pixel 8 Pro a month after the new iPhones, could arrive without the new charging standard based on the latest certification.
The Google Pixel 8 would debut with an unchanged wireless charging rating as last year’s Pixel 7. This is after a new listing has been spotted by 9to5Google describing the Pixel 8 bearing a model number GKWS6 has been recently certified by the Wireless Power Consortium. The organization is known to manage the development of wireless charging standard for phones, including the Qi2 that was announced earlier this year.

Furthermore, it is indicated in the listing of a 1.2.4 wireless version, which is believed to refer to the original Qi rather the newer Qi2. The 12 watts rating is also specified and evidently confirms of unchanged speed from the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro that Camila reviewed.
At the same time, it would mean the Pixel 8 is missing the Qi2 wireless standard, which is seen to get improved efficiency and faster charging power. For reference, Qi2 was helped developed by Apple, and it relies on the company’s MagSafe technology. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro are slated in September could become the pioneer for Qi2.
It remains unclear if the Pixel 8 Pro is going to feature the same charging speed considering the certification is for the smaller Pixel 8. There might be a chance that the search giant may fit it with a faster wireless charging because of its bigger battery capacity.
