Geospatial intelligence – Maxar wins $14.4m Netherlands contract

Maxar wins $14.4m contract from Dutch for geospatial intelligence

The U.S. company has won a contract worth €13.6m ($14.4m). Specifically, the Netherlands Ministry of Defence has taken a four-year subscription to the Maxar Geospatial Platform (MGP) Pro.

Geospatial intelligence

The deal will see Maxar data support the Netherland’s Defence Geographic Agency (DGA) and its mapping, intelligence and operational support missions.

“At a time of increasing geopolitical instability, Maxar is proud of deepening our partnership with the Netherlands Ministry of Defence through mission critical geospatial intelligence capabilities,” said Anders Linder, General Manager, International Government at Maxar.

“Governments trust the capabilities and security of Maxar’s platform to enhance their foundational geospatial data layers and provide timely, mission-critical insights that support requirements across all domains.”

MGP Pro comprises Maxar’s 20-year, 125-petabyte imagery archive, its WorldView Legion imagery (right), and the ability to task satellites, access 3D data and apply AI capabilities for object detection and change monitoring.

Maxar

Maxar has office in London but is headquartered in Westminster, Colorado, near Denver.

According to the company, the Dutch will access an image collection covering 3 million square kilometres. This is of daily 30cm-class resolution images. It has more than 6 billion sq km of archived imagery at up to 30cm resolution. And its latest satellites – WorldView Legion (pictured, top) – enable up to 15 revisits to a location per day, with <1.5m RMSE accuracy, it states.

In May 2023, the private equity firm Advent International bought Maxar Technologies and took it private in a $6.4bn deal.

Advent and Maxar had previously announced entering into a definitive merger agreement.
