EdgeQ raises $75m

Today EdgeQ completed a $75 million Series B funding round.

Led by Phaistos Investment Fund, the Series B round includes new investors from nearly all continents, as well as existing backers from previous rounds.

The Series B makes EdgeQ the most well-funded 5G+AI chip startup focusing on wireless infrastructure, claims the company.

EdgeQ will use its newly injected funds to ramp
production of their 5G + AI “Base Station-on-a-Chip” and develop their next generation chip.

Customers want  the freedom to scale from nominal to advanced 5G features such as ultra-reliable low latency communications, geo-location services, massive MIMO, fine-grained network slicing, as well as extending compatibility to other legacy wireless protocols.

EdgeQ has developed a  “Base station-on-a-Chip,” giving operators, cloud service providers and enterprises the revolutionary ability to build, configure, and deploy public and private networks that are simple, scalable, and affordable.

Completely open and software programmable, the converged 4G+5G+AI platform enables operators and service providers to deploy systems at scale, implement wholesale upgrades without ripping and replacing their current network configuration, and frees the market from vendor lock-in.

The massively integrated 4G+5G+AI chip compacts the equivalent worth of an entire rack of expensive base station equipment into a tiny silicon IC,  claimed to run at 50% of the power and cost of traditional approaches.

The enterprise-grade platform comes feature complete, including a production-grade Physical Layer (PHY) software that governs all the essential protocols and features of 4G/5G.

The platform addresses the pain point of deploying 5G PHY and MAC software layers, but with an open framework that enables a rich ecosystem of L2/L3 software partners. The solution is available now.

The company says it is the first totally software-driven silicon platform that offers 4G, 5G, and AI at the edge in a disruptively simple, accessible, and frictionless manner.  Customer deployments are expected this year.

“By removing the friction and price premium that traditionally accompanies cellular deployment, we have envisioned a new backbone that is simple, intuitive, and open. And that disruption is available now,” says CEO Vinay Ravuri.
