What was the world of Dune like 10,000 years before Paul Atreides was even born? With upcoming streaming series Dune: Prophecy, we’re about to find out.
Dune: Prophecy centers on the origins of the mysterious Bene Gesserit, an order of women with near-supernatural mastery of their own bodies. Their cunning and control leads them to exert great influence over the Great Houses of the Imperium — an influence we see even in the first teaser for Dune: Prophecy.
Sandworms and solar eclipses: 5 things we learned from ‘The Art and Soul of ‘Dune: Part Two”
In this first look, Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson) — a long-gone ancestor of Dune‘s own Feyd-Rautha — details the beginnings of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood. Each Sister was assigned to a Great House, where their Truthsaying abilities help tell truth from lies. The end goal of this sisterhood, according to Valya? “A Sister on the throne,” she says. “Nothing is more important.”
Of course, Dune fans know there’s more to the Bene Gesserit project than that.
The Sisters embark on a millennia-long project to birth the Kwisatz Haderach, a mind that can bridge space and time. And based on one Sister’s horrified assertion that, “This is us playing God, and we will be judged for it,” it looks like we’ll be seeing the first seeds of this project come to light in Dune: Prophecy.
Dune: Prophecy premieres this fall on Max.
