Bring a laser bong on the go with Hitoki’s portable attachment for Saber

There is one timeless way to share marijuana on the go — a joint. It’s small, it fits in your pocket, it’s easy to pass around, and you don’t have to do much to get it going. I have never, in my many years as an adult, brought anything other than a joint or a one-hitter to smoke on the go. Hitoki is changing that.

The company that creates famously hi-tech ways to smoke recently dropped the Hitoki portable attachment, an accessory for its Hitoki Saber laser bong system. It could work as a replacement for your joint.

The Hitoki Trident is a bong that uses a laser as its combustion process, meaning it is an actual laser bong — no fire necessary. It delivers a wildly smooth smoking experience, feels like it’s from the future, and lights up in some very fun colors. But, until recently, it wasn’t exactly travel-friendly.

Enter: the portable attachment.

“The portable attachment is a modular silicone piece that connects a spill-resistant bubbler to the Hitoki Saber device and is perfect for on-the-go smokers,” Hitoki said in its press release about the new tool. “The silicone attachment holds the bubbler, the device, and the herb poker together in one.”

It comes with three pre-set temperature modes, charges fast, allows for 60 draws per charge, and has FDA compliant safety locks. And it is so, so easy to clean.

It travels like a dream

Which is to say it makes me incredibly uneasy but somehow always turns out fine.

In a dream, nothing seems to make a lot of sense, and that’s the same vibe I get traveling with Hitoki’s latest saber portable attachment. I put it in my backpack and rode my bike to Prospect Park to smoke with some friends, and when I arrived, no water had spilled out of the glass bubbler and there wasn’t a crack to be seen. That said, I did have a great deal of anxiety transporting it because, well, the bubbler is glass! Scary.

How does it affect the smoking experience?

It has many of the same pros and cons as the non-portable Hitoki laser bong — the first hit isn’t as strong as the second hit, but all of them still slap. The battery lasts for a really long time, but you only get a few hits from each load which can feel wasteful. I love all three of the heat settings, which makes for a really smooth smoke. And it was a total winner at the park or camping, where I don’t necessarily want to bring out fire.

I anticipated that the silicone container would make for a weird smoking experience, but it didn’t at all — it made it easy to hold in my hands when I’m out and about and ensures it doesn’t scoot around if I’m smoking off of a countertop. The only frustrating part is taking the saber out of the silicone to reload the herb; it’s similar to pulling on leggings after you get out of the pool.

The water bubbler doesn’t spill but if you overload it, you can still get hit with the dreaded bong water — that’s on me though. It’s a little freaky to smoke while you’re moving, and far less cool looking than smoking a joint on a walk, but if you absolutely had to smoke out of a bong while outside this is probably the best bet.

There’s still something missing

The storage space for a cleaner is incredibly helpful, but, for a product made for portable smoking, it’s missing something pretty obvious: a place to store your herbs. Since you only get a few hits from each load, if you’re sharing with friends, you may need to reload it a couple of times. And since there’s no place to store your herbs, you have to bring them separately — a far less convenient option than, say, just bringing a joint.

How much is the Hitoki Portable Attachment? Is it worth it?

The attachment — which comes with the spill-resistant glass bubbler, the silicone attachment, and a cleaning tool — is $59.99. If you already own the Hitoki laser bong, I would absolutely recommend grabbing yourself this attachment.

But you have to buy the Saber separately. It’s an amazing device, as we’ve previously covered, but it’ll cost you $299.99.
