Apple iPhone 15’s Stacked Camera May Delay Its Release Date

Early this year, Apple was reported to swap out the 12 MP from the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus for a new 48 MP camera, which is should be the same sensor as the current iPhone 14 Pro (review). It is now forecasted that this component may cause delays to the release dates of the standard iPhone 15 duo.

According to one of the notable Apple analysts, Jeff Pu, of Haitong International Securities, is reiterating in a newsletter that Apple will utilize a three-stacked 48 MP sensor on the iPhone 15 (Plus). But he also added that the latest supply chain developments suggest that the component is causing some bottlenecks in production targets, which may result in the iPhone 15 pair being delayed.

Will the iPhone 15 (Plus) release be delayed like the iPhone 14 Plus?

However, Pu still believes that there are still no solid indicators of Apple revamping its usual launch timetable for the next-gen iPhone. Meaning, the Cupertino firm is still on track to announce and release the iPhone 15 together with the iPhone 15 Pro models in September, although the specific dates are yet known.

But if there are ever possible changes to the schedule, it is safe to presume this difference will be in the range of a few weeks or so. For reference, the iPhone 14 Plus hit the shelves three weeks later than the smaller iPhone 14 we reviewed.

As for the 48 MP camera on the iPhone 15, the sensor is said to deliver brighter and sharper photos. It could also enable 2x lossless zoom on both snappers by relying on the larger pixel count. On the other hand, the pro models may get a boosted 3x lossless zoom while the Pro Max variant could take advantage of a periscope camera.

In addition to the cameras, the iPhone 15 is planned to be powered by the A16 Bionic processor and will feature Dynamic Island and USB-C port. Exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max is the more efficient and faster A17 Bionic, titanium chassis, ProMotion display, and 8 GB of RAM.
