And one of the best third-party ambient noise apps, Dark Noise, has just been updated to version 3.0 with a number of changes.
The biggest change is an addition of a new free tier. Instead of having to pay, you can access eight free sounds that can infinitely loop. You’ll also bee able to access other great features including Shortcuts, Siri integration, and a timer that can fade out noise before you wake up.
With customizable widgets, you can quickly play your favorite sounds directly from your home screen or lock screen.
If you’ve ever wanted to see what Dark Noise is about, the free tier is a great way to see if the app is for you.
For even more features, you optionally subscribe to the new Dark Noise Pro subscription tier. That’s $2.99 per month or $19.99 per year. There is also a $49.99 option to unlock the tier for the lifetime of the app. There is a 3-day, free trial to test out the tier.
Subscribers can access more than 50 sounds available in the app. Other features include the ability to create custom mixes of different sounds and access to premium themes and alternate app icons.
The update also begins the process of of improving the app’s sounds for headphones or nicer speakers. Four high-quality stereo remasters of existing sounds are included—rain, thunderstorm, beach, and airplane interior.
Dark Noise is designed for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It’s a free download on the App Store now.
Anyone who purchased the app before today’s update will have all of the Dark Noise Pro features unlocked automatically. In the future, there may be some features that require a subscription, but for now users will receive all of the pro features for no charge.
