Samsung has been rumored to introduce two iterations of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6, which was said to include a new entry-level that could be dubbed as Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE and a new ultra-premium foldable model. But as we progress towards the supposed Unpacked event in July, the chances of the cheaper butterfly foldable from happening is getting thinner.
In the latest report out from South Korea, outlet The Elec is citing supply chain chatter that says Samsung is reconsidering its plans of launching an entry-level Galaxy Z Fold 6. The device, which is said to cost sub $1000, was originally believed to go official along the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra, but it now appears only the latter two will likely be released this year.
Why the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE could not arrive this year
According to the details shared by the source, there are a few notable reasons why Samsung could scrap the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE in 2024. Mainly, it says that the company was not able to achieve its intended product “differentiation” such as making the foldable device as thin as alternatives coming from Chinese brands. That is despite the model ditching the S Pen from the Galaxy Z Fold 5 (review).
Another reason seen is with the “industry uncertainty”, with Samsung not confident that the first Fan Edition foldable model is going to sell well as with the standard and ultra versions of the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
However, it was added that Samsung has still plans of introducing the entry-level foldable next year. If to materialize, it will be positioned alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 range.
As what it stands, Samsung’s foldable lineup in 2024 is shaping up to include the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra, and the clamshell Galaxy Z Flip 6. To make it even complicated, there was also a rumor of a Galaxy Z Flip 6 FE model. However, available details surrounding the handset suggest it is just a mere speculation.
