‘Avatar’ cast adorably gets Seasons 2 and 3 news via group video call

The cast of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender got some good news yesterday: the live action adaptation, years in the making, has been renewed for two more seasons.

Star Daniel Dae Kim (who plays Fire Lord Ozai) got the show’s leads — Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, and Elizabeth Yu — together on a call, keeping them visibly on their toes. But the big reveal, that Seasons 2 and 3 have been greenlit by Netflix, got the most heartwarming reaction from all the actors.

Netflix posted the video on YouTube on Wednesday, and you can watch it above.

The live-action series got big numbers for Netflix, reaching the Top 10 list in over 92 countries. Reactions from critics and fans have varied, with many appreciating the cast’s performances, the show’s attention to aesthetics, and the conscious nods to its animated predecessor, but others being wary of some choices — like jamming in too many storylines and not allowing certain characters to remain true to their original selves.

Now the cast has two more runs at the iconic show. Netflix said that details about episode count and material will be announced at a later date, though it looks clear that the main cast will be returning for their roles. And it’s almost certain that fans can’t wait to see what’s in store.
