If you crack or shatter your Pixel Watch’s screen, Google won’t fix it. The company does not offer Pixel Watch repairs. At best, Google will replace your Pixel Watch, but only if a repair meets the criteria of your limited warranty (which does not cover damage caused by “accidents” or “normal wear and tear”).
In a conversation with The Verge, a Google spokesperson explains how “at this moment, we don’t have any repair option for the Google Pixel Watch.” If your Pixel Watch is damaged, “you can contact the Google Pixel Watch Customer Support Team to check your replacement options.” To some Pixel Watch owners, this is old news. But customers who expect some level of service or accommodation are a bit shocked — after all, the Pixel Watch is $350.
More frustratingly, Google doesn’t offer an extended warranty for the Pixel Watch. If your Pixel Watch breaks, you’re stuck begging Google for a replacement or buying a new smartwatch. The only exception, of course, is if you buy a warranty through a retailer like Best Buy (most people don’t).
You can technically repair the Pixel Watch at home. Our friends at iFixit have published a few Pixel Watch repair guides, including one for screen replacements. But you can’t buy replacement Pixel Watch screens, and even if you could, the unique dome-shaped glass would be annoyingly expensive and difficult to work with (which is probably why Google doesn’t bother with Pixel Watch repairs).
There’s just one thing to note — Google isn’t alone here. If you take a broken Apple Watch to the Apple Store, it won’t receive any repairs. You’ll walk out of the store with a new Apple Watch. But hey, at least Apple offers an extended warranty (AppleCare+) for its smartwatches. And while the Pixel Watch receives just three years of software support, the newest Apple Watches get five years of support.
Rumors suggest that Google will reveal the second-generation Pixel Watch on October 4th (alongside the Pixel 8 smartphone). In terms of reparability, the second-gen Pixel Watch will probably be equal to its predecessor. It’s expected to use the same domed glass display as the original model.
