Blackmagic Camera Brings Professional Controls to Your Video Shoot

And the company’s new app Blackmagic Camera brings professional-grade video controls to the iPhone for free.

Based on the same interface as the company’s digital film cameras, you can create the same cinematic look as a Hollywood film.

Some of the settings you can adjust include frame rate, shutter angle, white balance, and ISO with a single tap. You can record video at 10-bit Apple ProRes up to 4K.

Instead of needing to search through a menu, you can instantly changes settings with just a tap. The app’s HUD show status and record parameters, histogram, focus peaking indicators, levels, frame guides, and more. To see more of the scene, just swipe down to hide the HUD.

To focus on a specific area, just tap the screen at that location. As another big plus, you can also shoot 16:9 video vertically.

When looking for even more customization, head to the Settings tab. You can find advanced settings like monitoring, audio, camera setup, and more. In the Record tab you can choose both the video resolution and recording format. Along with Apple ProRes, you can choose the more space efficient H.264 and H.265 options. The app also supports external microphones.

Head to the app’s Media tab to browse or scrub clips for a quick review. There is a thumbnail for each clip. Videos can be saved to your phone or Blackmagic Cloud Storage. Media can also be synced directly into DaVinci Resolve.

Anyone who is a Blackmagic Cloud Storage can use the chat workspace to talk about hots and share creative ideas without needing to leave the app.

Blackmagic Camera is for the iPhone and available to download on the App Store. There are no in-app purchases, subscriptions, or advertisements.
