Stomp Brings a Full-Featured Mastodon Experience to Your Apple Watch

There are a wide variety of great apps you can use to get the best experience out of the growing social network alternative. And that list has grown longer with the latest addition from developer Will Bishop—Stomp for Mastodon.

Instead of a iPhone or Mac client, the new app focuses on providing a surprisingly full-featured Mastodon experience for the Apple Watch.

And Bishop definitely knows about bringing a social network to the small screen. He previously developed Chirp, an Apple Watch Twitter app. That was shut down in July after the well-publicized API changes.

But in its place, Stomp provides a great experience for Mastodon.

You’ll set up the app on your iPhone and then be able to start browsing on your Apple Watch.

Start scrolling your timeline with the Digital Crown or on the screen with the ability to boost posts, view replies, and more.

And that’s far from all, you can also see images, videos, mentions, hashtags, and more. There is also a trending page to see what’s popular on Mastodon right now.

Stomp for Mastodon is a free download on the App Store now. You’ll need to unlock Stomp Pro to use all of the features of the app.

You can unlock that with a choose-your-own payment of $2.99, $5.99, or $99.99. Alternatively, there is also a subscription option of $0.99 per month or $9.99 yearly.

With Stomp Pro, you can create posts, reply to posts, use direct messages, search, and use lists.

If you’ve previously used Chirp for Twitter, Stomp brings those same great features to Mastodon. I’ve enjoyed using it on the large screen of the Apple Watch Ultra.

While Mastodon is one of a number of growing rivals to Twitter, like Meta’s Threads, the ability to use third-party apps helps make the social network stand out.
