The studio has just announced its biggest departure yet.
ToyTopia: Match3 is a match-three puzzler for Android and iOS featuring toys—but you probably already guessed that from the title.
What you probably didn’t know is that it’s being developed by Webzen Cube Inc., a Webzen subsidiary with a remit to create fun, colourful casual games.
The team at Cube Inc. has worked on many of the most enjoyable casual games of recent years, so there’s every reason to get excited about ToyTopia.
In terms of gameplay, ToyTopia involves matching blocks in lines or columns of three or more in order to defeat a succession of Villains. Basically, it’s a match-three puzzler. You know what that means.
But ToyTopia has a few tricks up its sleeve, setting it apart from its genre stablemates.
For one thing, there’s a clever-sounding toy-building mechanic. Details are thin on the ground right now, but from what we can tell this sees you completing stages to collect stars, and then using those stars to obtain characters at the Dreamcatcher Machine.
Then, you can place the characters you unlock into themed buildings to earn Coins, which you can spend on… something.
We’re sure it’ll all become clear.
In any case, Webzen claims that you’ll eventually get to build a personalised world of characters and buildings, which sounds neat.
There’s no firm release date for ToyTopia at this point, but the soft launch is due to begin in Q3 2023. For those not versed in business speak, that means it could be playable any time from the beginning of next month.
