With Skylight Forecast, you can see a prediction of the quality of your evening light.
When opening the app, you can see a rainbow colored path of the sun across the sky. That is an abstraction of the sunset at your location tonight. It will change colors and appearance depending on the weather.
That forecast is made from a number of atmospheric factors at the location.
Below the forecast is three different cards—Golden Hour, Sunset, and Afterglow. Each of those also have a forecasted quality and a number of additional details like time.
If you’re new to photography, Golden Hour earns its name as one of the best time for photographers to shoot images outdoors. The warm light combines with the shadows for some unbelievable ambiance.
The Sunset prediction uses both geographic latitude and aerosols in the atmosphere.
Finally, Afterglow takes place 15 to 20 minutes after the sun has slipped below the horizon and features a soft illumination of the clouds and a unique blend of colors.
For each card, you can see some of the different colors you may see when shooting.
There app also offers a home screen and lock screen widget. On the home screen, the color and vibrance of the widget will give you a quick idea of what to expect. The icons will also change depending on the forecast.
Skylight Forecast is designed for the iPhone and can be downloaded now on the App Store for free. You’ll need a subscription to use the app.
